Lentivirinae

Lentivirinae
Subfamily of non-oncogenic retroviruses that cause "slow diseases" that are characterized by horizontal transmission, long incubation periods and chronic progressive phases. Visna virus is in this group, and there are similarities between visna, equine infectious anaemia virus, and HIV.
